Honhaar Scholarship Program: Laptops for Students with 65% Marks

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched the Honhaar Scholarship Program at Government College Women University (GCWU) Sialkot. During the event, she announced that all students who score more than 65% marks will receive laptops.

Top Students Honored

The top 10 students from the Gujranwala division were awarded cheques. A contingent of the Punjab Police presented a guard of honor to these outstanding students.

Support for Cancer Treatment

The Chief Minister also pledged that the Punjab government would cover the cancer treatment expenses for a female student’s mother, showcasing the government’s commitment to supporting families in need.

Scholarship Details

Under this initiative, a total of 1,947 students from the Gujranwala division will receive scholarships worth Rs89.8 million. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Government Universities: 1,276 students will receive Rs58.5 million.
  • Colleges: 481 students will get Rs13.2 million.
  • Private Institutions: 112 students will benefit.
  • Medical Colleges: 78 students will be supported.

Expansion of the Scholarship Program

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced plans to increase the number of Honhaar scholarships to 50,000 in the next year’s budget. Currently, 30,000 scholarships are being awarded, but she emphasized the need for more to ensure public funds are used for students’ welfare.

Merit-Based Scholarships

Addressing the students, the Chief Minister expressed her admiration for their hard work despite limited resources. She emphasized that scholarships are awarded purely on merit, without any political bias or recommendations.

Laptops for High Achievers

Students with more than 65% marks will soon receive laptops, personally selected by the Chief Minister to ensure quality. She confirmed that the first batch of laptops has already arrived and she will distribute them herself shortly.

E-Bikes for Students

In addition to laptops, 100,000 e-bikes will be distributed free of charge to students across Punjab, further supporting their educational journey.

Economic Improvement and Future Plans

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the country’s improving economy, decreasing inflation, and record-breaking stock market performance. She expressed her hope that these positive changes will soon benefit the students.
